The Rotary Club of Brighton North has just made a donation of a trike to a lass with Hemiplegia to enable her to get to school. Read this heart warming story.

Amelia is a five year old student at Brighton Primary School with a very, very rare disease called Hemiplegia, which currently affects only about 120 people worldwide.  The condition is neurological and manifests with Amelia having sudden onset episodes of weakness which can be localized to one limb, one side of her body or encompass he whole body, and can last from minutes to hours. As such her development is delayed, however she is doing well in Prep grade at school with the assistance of a full time aid.  At home Amelia does not need any mobility aids, but at school she required a wheelchair and walking frame to enable her to be integrated into the school community.

Amelia's mother, Sonia, wrote to RCBN asking if we might be able to support them with the purchase of a special 3-wheel trike for Amelia to ride to school, since they live in the next street to Brighton Primary.   Several of our members generously donated funds, and with some extra funds from the Bayside Dog Training School (through Terry Lack) we were able to purchase the trike.  It came in a big box, and thanks to Anthony Jones, it was assembled from basic components to be able to be presented to a delighted Amelia and her mum.
Amelia's 8 year old brother is having a birthday next week and his present (shhh) is going to be a bike, so now they will both be able to ride to school and the local park together.Trike Donation
