MEGA Swim success
The MS 24 hour MEGA Swim that was conducted this last weekend raised $21,600 for people living with MS. Our 2 Club swim teams alone raised over $10k in donations and sponsors
There were some 150 MEGA Swimmers (8 teams) swimming 520 km in 24hrs
It is estimate that over 400 people at Waves Pool were exposed to the work of our Rotary Club, and more importantly, about 80 of the swimmers were under 30 years of age and experienced Rotary in action
The Team Leaders for the event in no particular order:
40 volunteers worked for over 145 hours over a 27 hour period, which demonstrates the teamwork in our Club and our Cluster
Our Club MEGA Swimmers were Lyn & Phil Mortimer who swam for 1.5 hours and Angela Dawson, who swam for 1.25 hours. Our family Swimmers were Nick and Matt Lawrence, Nadine Phillips, Toby Potter, Shannon & Michael Jones. Between them they swam a total of 60 km
Cheltenham Swim Club, who swam 104 km in 24 hours, were just short of the record of 111 km – they plan to beat that record next year
Peter Harris did a great job to MC the start of the event, and Pres Ross Rice represented the Club in the closing ceremony by thanking our Sponsors
Celebrities who attended the event included Tammy van Wisse, marathon swimmer with 6 world records under her belt (bathers) who promoted the event and was a starting swimmer, the Mayor of Casey, Lorraine Wreford and Murray Thompson, MLA for Sandringham, who sounded the starting gun for the MEGA Swim
Carole Cook , who started MEGA Swim 10 yrs ago, presented the prizes to the winners to:
