Jazz Jamboree 2013
Sunday April 28th was the day our club went 'public'!
Sponsorship by Brighton Honda and Francesca Presents, enabled us to put on our first RCBN initiated public event.
The audience was highly entertained by 5 very capable school bands from Firbank Grammar College, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, St. Leonard's College (2) and Star of the Sea, plus the 'professional' Jazz Doctors and solo musician Marceau.
The Kamesburgh Gardens on North Road, Brighton was a natural setting to relax and enjoy the jazz oriented music for 5 hours. The stately home in the gardens presented a magnificent backdrop to the school bands. The expertise of the student musicians was a joy to see and listen to as were the solo singer and solo musicians.
Marceau provided wonderful entertainment during the band breaks with his amazing singing and versatile playing of a variety of instruments and the Jazz Doctors had us foot tapping to traditional old favourite jazz tunes.
Con, the very clever balloon twister created 'creatures' of all shapes, sizes and colours and kept an attentive audience overawed by his dexterity and cleverness. Bayside Toy Library provided another form of entertainment for the children with a jumping castle, slides, face painting, plus all sorts of games to join into.
The BBQ team was kept very busy cooking sausages. It and the coffee cart kept up a good trade all day as did the raffle sellers.
The audience could have been larger to enable us to raise more funds for Family Life and our community projects, however we are encouraged by our first attempt at promoting and running such an event.
As President Jim stated, "now we know we can run a big event".
