December is Rotary Family Month

       Inspired by an article in the Bayside Leader in September, which described that "a shoebox full of goodies can bring joy to a child in a poor country" our club collected 16 shoeboxes filled with items to wear, to love, school equipment, personal hygiene items and fun things such as bangles and stickers and then delivered them to the Samaritans Purse organization in Mitcham.
And what a surprising place it was - a huge warehouse, complete with a "drive through" to deliver the boxes, conveyor belts to manage their flow and scores of volunteers checking, grading, topping up and wrapping thousands of shoeboxes ready to be packed into larger boxes to be container dispatched to needy children in PNG, Fiji, Thailand and the Phillipines.
Well done to everyone who contributed, and since we are now on their mailing list, let's double our efforts for this good cause next year.
