Vocational Excellence Awards 2011
Rotary Club of Brighton North celebrated the inaugural Vocational Excellence Awards this week. Our congratulations go to Jan Brasch and Roy Bird. These two recipients of this new award set an extremely high standard for the future.

To Jan Brasch
For Outstanding Research
in the field of Genetics
Jan has shown Vocational Excellence being at the forefront of the science of genetics in medical research, and playing an important role in the research of seriously debilitating diseases. Following a successful student career where she achieved a Master of Science (MSc), Genetics, Jan has been involved in the development and application of key tests that detect genetic diseases. A prolific author of papers while still active in this important field, Jan has played a key role in the use of the science of genetics in Australia.
To Roy Bird PSM
For Outstanding Public Service
in the field of Defence
Roy has shown Vocational Excellence by passionately leading the development of engineering protection solutions to improve the survivability of Australian Defence Force Personnel operating in lightly armoured and soft skinned military vehicles. Roy was responsible for the development and testing of under-body add-on armour which is fitted to many ADF vehicles now operating overseas.
