A lot of the meeting is covered elsewhere in this bulletin. Other morsels are included here... I have added in some notes about the health of a few members. Holidays seem fraught for some. Also there's an important request for anyone who can help with the Reading in School programme.

Although all members were in a sociable mood, they came to attention for President Jim, Chairperson Kay and the sergeants who wrung $85.05 out of the smallest attendance since this meeting last year. The raffle added $41.00 of which Pierre won $10.

As well as upcoming events like the Car Rally, President Jim explained that Kate won the Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race - line honours by 23 hours! Plus a win on handicap. Well done Kate Mitchell!

Talk to Sue if you can help with Walk the Tan please.

Jeff updated us on Heritage signage and Barry wants to know where our breathalysers should be placed as the TAC contract is signed.

A message came from DG Dennis Shore regarding the District response to the Tasmanian bush-fires.

Ian's Fact of the Week came out of left field... ad hockery at its best.

Chris Warner is in hospital this coming week and would love some visitors again.

David Jack is flying around Australia.

Don deserves our support as guest speaker this coming Wednesday.

Gerry thanked everyone for their Christmas presents and said the children's party went off well.

We heard from Don that Kate's mother, Noeline, has broken her hip - she had surgery that night and is doing well in Wangaratta Hospital.

Barrie seems happier this week - is it because of his more positive diagnosis after seeing his GP again or is it simply because Glennie is back from Cairns?

And Christina is not back from USA and won't be for another couple of weeks, as she had to have emergency surgery to remove her appendix! We all hope you are recovering fast and getting loads of good ole USA family TLC.

For Reading in School helpers: Kay will bring a new roster on Wednesday as this needs to be sorted before school starts. If you put your name on Christina's list at the end of the year PLEASE sign up again on the new roster this week or email kayp01@optusnet.com.au Sorry but we don't have access to Christina's original.

And, back to our meeting:

President Jim ended the night, as always with one of his topical quotations. This week, John Steinbeck: " What good is the warmth of summer without the cold of winter to give it sweetness?"
