Everyone present agreed this was a special meeting. For those who weren't there here's my "take" on it. For those who were there - some reminders about service projects...

President Jim welcomed Mia Hall, attending to see what Rotary is all about. Mia is a friend of Francesca. He also welcomed other visitors including Di Brearley and Inspector Stephen Mutton our official speaker, Deputy Commissioner Steve Fontana and Superintendent Debra Abbott from the Police Mentoring scheme. President Jim thanked all those who helped with the Jazz Jamboree which, although not attracting a big crowd was efficiently and successfully organised so everyone had a great day. Special thanks went to Jeff, Sue Gerry and Francesca for their huge effort. Lots more photos of the Jamboree in a separate story.

The RI Council on Legislation was held recently. This three yearly event is to review RI's rules and regulations. The detail was in Jim's email to all members. However it's worth mentioning that after changing Youth to New Generations last time, RI has now followed the lead of Brighton North and been changed back to Youth!

Our team for the Family Life Golf Day on Friday 31 May needs at least one more player please.

Pres Jim is seeking nominations for Paul Harris Awards.

The Club's thoughts have been with Belinda and Sue in their time of bereavment.

Jeff explained that our six Heritage signs have been added to by the BCC so now there will be 10 along Bay Street. Brian used his Entertainment-Book-selling skills to off-load a huge number of bottles of water.

Francesca has several gardenias for sale at $30.00 each. These adorned the fountain at the Jazz Jamboree.

Reminder to diary Bowls Night on 12 June.

Jeff was pleased that the Jazz Jamboree made a small profit for our charity coffers Lots of lessons were learned from this first occasion that will be utilised for future events.

Please let Russell know NOW if you have ideas for fund raisers for next year; especially ideas that will draw funds from outside of our members who already give so much. Our budgetted income at this stage goes nowhere near covering all those projects our members want to have or continue. There will be separate team leaders for each project next year. The incoming Board and officers' list, with a few changes, is published elsewhere in this Bulletin. The incoming Board has a crucial planning meeting next Tuesday evening.

A call has been made for people to put their names forward for the Police Mentoring Programme.

Although the Board will make the final decision, Barry would love to have your ideas about where to locate our breathalysers.

Kay visited the Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation campus and got information that will help with our indigenous scholarship/support project.

The RI Convention next year is in Sydney -  lots of members are already planning to attend. What a great event it will be with upwards of 10,000 participants expected. Talk to Geoff if you want to join in!

Barry's fact of the Week dwelt on our Rotary motto of Service Above Self. It was a timely reminder about why we are Rotarians. The changes in the secondary motto seemed as much a comment on how politically correct people are.

Inspector Stephen Mutton, supported by hos colleagues, Debra and Steve, gave an excellent summation and view of this amazing project that was set up for three years, six years ago. It is testimony to its success that it shows every sign of continuing and being extended to other levels of the Police. Stephen told us something of his own Police history and things from the programme that were highlights for him.

The raffle jack potted and the sergeants dragged a mere $77 from our pockets.

All in all a pretty good night for RCBN.
