To commemorate Remembrance Day on 11Nov we had Bill Heron speak at our meeting, recounting his time in Vietnam in the 1960's.

Bill showed us many photos of his time in Vietnam.  Flying high above the terrain he obviously had a birds eye view.  We saw the camps, South Vietnamese, Australian & American, the types of helicopters that were in use at the time, how soldiers on the ground would send a coloured smoke signal to signify where they were waiting to be rescued, the only camouflage given to the helicopters was a 'screen of smoke' from a small fixed wing plane! The Australian troops earned a reputation of being determined fighters.  Bill reported being shot down 3 times, but much to Ann's relief he returned, as in 18months of marriage they had only been together for about 6 weeks.
The vote of thanks was given by Gerry Lambourne.
