The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is a week-long residential personal development program for young people aged 18 to 25, which focuses on yourself, leadership and community.
Our RYLA representatives Sally-Anne Young and Hannah Brown attended Camp Oasis at Mount Evelyn from 5 – 11 December.
Judging by the enthusiastic reporting of the week’s events as we drove back from camp, both girls agreed that it was a very positive experience.
Sally-Anne is 23, (on the left in photo) lives in Beaumaris and has been successful in gaining employment to commence her Electrical Apprenticeship in the New Year. Sally has had experience volunteering at Youth Camps in California and at Mill Valley Ranch a holiday camp associated with her Church. She has also taken herself to the outback of the Northern Territory working on a cattle station during 2009.
Hannah is 20, lives in Altona and will be commencing her final year of a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University, in 2011. Hannah is majoring in Genetics. Hannah works part-time as the Directors Assistant at MIL-Systems an electrical company and volunteers at Melbourne Uni. assisting students from disadvantaged schools.
Both Hannah and Sally say they learnt a lot about themselves during the camp and are looking forward to joining us at our Rotary meeting on
Wednesday, 2 March 2011 to talk to us about their experiences.
