Motor Neurone Disease and the Susie Harris Memorial Fund
There is a peak body called MND Australia and an MND Association in each state.
Rod Harris is the CEO of Motor Neurone Disease Association of Victoria ("MND Victoria")
The Susie Harris Memorial Fund ("SHMF") operates under the auspices of MND Victoria such that all funds donated to SHMF are tax deductible. This structure saves SHMF "reinventing the wheel" and incurring the administration and compliance costs in setting up a new entity.
The SHMF operates under a set of rules which have been approved by the MND Victoria and works closely with MND Victoria in relation to how funds raised are utilised. There is a "partnership" between SHMF and MND Victoria with both seeking to achieve the same outcome, namely to:
1. fund research into the diagnosis and treatment of MND; and
2. provide support services to persons suffering from MND.
